Via Dolorosa is an account of Sir David’s travels in Israel and the Palestinian territories in 1998, where he met with writers, historians, actors, philosophers, politicians, settlers, and others, and tried to make sense of the history and seemingly intractable issues that confront this region.
The result is a wonderfully humane and human perspective on a situation that to many of us seems either unfathomable or simply impossible. Hare’s scrupulous honesty, coupled with his wit, warmth and unexpected humor, give us insights into the lives and perspectives of the people who live there, and add immeasurably to our appreciation of the issues, and even their possible resolution. Simon Vance, a regular actor in TheatreFIRST productions (and close to Hare in both age and aspect), will play the part of the author under Clive Chafer’s direction.
